Tis the season for booze, booze, and little bit more booze. Unless you have made a conscious decision to not drink throughout your life, you are probably sipping on a hot toddy as you read this post. Have no fear, there is a way to stay moderately in check while you bounce from one holiday party from another. Here are 5 tips to your road to healthful holiday festivities.
1) Don't drink
That right, I said it. It's okay not to drink at social events, just because it's assumed that you might, who said you actually need to? No need to go with that status quo, if you feel really out of the loop grab a seltzer water with a splash of cranberry. At the end of the day you'll save the calories, hang over, and some extra pocket change.
2) Eat before
It's easy to go overboard with the holiday treats when you are completely ravenous. Instead arrive fashionably late, with dinner already in your system. This way you will have total control over your cravings (or lack there of).
3) Go Green
Try going raw vegan for one full day out of the month. What does that look like? Try a green smoothie for breakfast, a fruit salad for lunch, and a huge hearty salad with your favorite veggies for dinner. No meat or dairy.
4) Dance the night away
You can go out, and get an exercise in at the same time? YES. Going dancing with the girls is a great way to spend a Saturday night as well as building up a good sweat.
5) Walk
Simple. We should be taking 10,000 steps a day. Sounds like a bit much? Not quite, some tips on how to accomplish that is to park your car far from your destination, go for a sunset walk with a friend (or with your pup), or take a 20 minute walk after dinner instead of watching the tube.
