So you put in your holiday dues. You might have had 1 to many gingerbread cookies and a couple more drinks than expected for New Years. Guess what? That’s okay! Sometimes you need to fall off the wagon to get back on, and we are keeping that our motivation to ring in the New Year and the best part about it all is that it doesn’t have to be a constant battle. There is a never ending epidemic of yo-yo dieting and unhealthy habits that people have formed throughout the years, and we want to break that mold. We are approaching this fresh start with a new perspective, using food as fuel rather than a form of entertainment. Once we start to synchronize our mind to our gut, listening to when we are hungry, stopping when we are full, is when we find true peace within our bodies.

How can we apply that to our daily lives, you ask? We have provided a week’s worth of recipes and tips to help you get back into the swing of things.

Before you start:

So What?

Think about your intention. What exactly do you want? Yes of course weight loss always plays in a factor, now let’s go beyond that. Dive into the specific’s, do you want to be able to run a mile in less than 10 minutes? Do you want to feel sexier in those new pair of jeans that you got for Christmas? Do you want to clear up your skin? Do you just all together want to approach your dietary needs in a new way? Once you find your purpose, it will justify why you are putting in so much effort. At the end of the day that will keep you going, even at the times you don’t want to.

Daily Affirmations

A daily affirmation is a constant thought that one repeats during the day. Usually it is a sentence or two, always short and sweet. They focus on something positive that you can dwell on which uplifts your mind body and soul. Remember, what you think is what you get back in the world. Some good example, “I know I am important” or “I feel total peace with my powerful positive self-esteem.” Yes it might feel cheesy at first, but the only person hearing you do it is yourself so have fun with it!

Meditation

A slow and gradual process, but meditation can help soothe your nerves and focus your intention into a very powerful way. Wake up 30 minutes earlier than you usually do, find a quiet and peaceful space that you enjoy being in, and try repeating your daily affirmation for an extended amount of time. The first week start for 5 minutes, then gradually work your way to 15 minutes.

Meal Plan:

Water

First thing when you wake up, drink 1 liter of room temperature water.

Wait 15-30 minutes before you eat (or until you are truly hungry)

Breakfast

Always incorporate some type of fruit. Because your body is in a fasted state, it absorbs complex carbs at a much faster rate. Try a fruit salad, oatmeal with fruit, or a fruit/veg smoothie.

Breakfast should be one of your biggest meals of the day, try to get in at least 500-700 calories, that way you will be sustained throughout the morning and won’t binge eat at night.

Water:

An hour after breakfast, chug 1 liter of water.

Lunch

Incorporating more complex carbs at this time of day because you still have energy to exert till night time! Think about baking potatoes, brown rice, or even oatmeal and pairing it with a salt/fat/oil free sauce alongside with a leafy salad. Think lots of greens and good carbs! Greens will cleanse your colon and motivate the waste to slide through.

Water:

Another liter of water

Dinner

A huge steaming hot bowl of soup with a salad is a great way to round of the day. Getting as many veggies and greens in will help restore your muscles and body while sleep without storing them as fat.

Notes

  • You want to get in at least 2-3 liters of water in a day. That is the lubrication to keep your colon cleansed.

  • Never drink water while you eat. This decreases the acid that helps digest food. Instead drink your water 15-30 minutes before you eat, or 1 hour after you eat.

  • Keep the oil and salt to a minimum, think about using water to sauté your veggies instead of oil and replace salt with various spices.

  • Keep it whole plant based, avoid dairy and see how your body reacts.
